Directions: after you have presented your theses to the class, type up the workshopped/edited thesis and your two (or more) reasons/topic sentences. For this week, you will not be required to comment on your classmates' blogs, but I would encourage you to see the work that your classmates are doing in case you are still struggling.
Due by 10pm the day you present your thesis. So, if you present on Monday, the blog will be due at 10pm that night. If you present on Wednesday, the blog will be due by 10pm that night.
5 points for being on time
5 points for following directions (you must have at least two reasons to support your thesis)
Anzaldua claims change is needed to bridge culture and reinforced with inclusionary diversity.
ReplyDeleteReasons:
1.Most of us dwell in this space so much of the time it's becomes a sort of home.
2.Our goal is not to use difference to separate us from others, but neither is it to gloss over those differences.
Gloria Anzaldua argues that categorizing identity can create barriers between individuals, but creating a diversified tribe can clarify the perception of human ignorance. She elaborates on her personal encounters of feminism, and how she was coaxed into betraying friendships with men. She defines the concept of new tribalism, in a manner of metaphorical and non-metaphorical bridges, and how being centered in the bridge promotes openness to culture altered by self-perception.
ReplyDeleteIn the essay, Gloria Anzaldua claims that her audience needs to embrace a cognitive shift in order to fully accomplish a universal understanding of “mestiza consciousness.”
ReplyDelete1. Understanding and realizing we are all the same but different. Having strict identity formats restricts progress toward being a whole society
2. Everyone is in a constant state of transitioning on the bridge. Everyone must move together in an understanding and accepting way.
(Sorry this is late, I was unaware we had to do this by 10PM the night we presented our thesis, I go straight from school to work until 11PM at night so it wasn't possible for me to accomplish the time frame).
Anzaldua advises feminist that, instead of conforming to either side of their bridges, they need to stay in the middle in order to resist identity barriers.
ReplyDelete1) Whether on the side of consumption or pure isolation, those who are in between should help those at the end of their bridge.
2) Anzaldua shares her personal experience with the feminists, causing the them to relate to her life.
In "Beyond Traditional Notions of Identity" Anzuldua invites feminists to embrace commonality in order to solve issues rather than let differences set them back.
ReplyDelete1. Focusing on ones own religion, race, gender as a means of identifying each other can set feminists back from solving problems, by excluding those that have different beliefs.
2. If feminists focus on what we as humans have in common, they will be able to solve bigger problems in the world instead of getting caught up on diversity.

In Beyond Traditional Notions of Identity, Anzaldua germinates new thoughts by revealing the distortion of identities among feminists.
ReplyDelete1. Anzaldua mentions the rethinking of old ideas brings birth to new ones. This helped move the focus of being victimized into a place of strength.
2. She shares a seemingly impossible idea of Mestiza Consciousness (pure acceptance) being attained and if attained this could be what births a "new-tribe", with the hope that conflict would stop and a peaceful transformation begins.
