Directions: you have just finished your second college paper, and your first (and, likely, last) rhetorical analysis. Please answer the following questions in the form of a paragraph (no more than 200 words). What do you feel you gained from understanding how others use rhetoric in their arguments? What aspect of the unit did you find most useful? How will you use the knowledge from this unit to both create and interpret arguments in the future? Is there anything more you would like to know about rhetoric before we move on?
Due before 10pm on November 5th.

5 points for following directions and answering all the questions.
I feel that rhetorical analysis is necessary for close review of an author’s creatiblity, tone, and logical reasoning. Without close examination the reader could miss many components of an arguments effectiveness and focus. This Unit has showed me how to critique and compose my own arguments topics with relatable evidence. Personally I enjoyed covering logical fallacies; it really showed how reliant we are on company names or familiarity of a product. I think that discussing logical fallacies has helped me pick apart fiction and factual aspects in a text.
ReplyDeleteI have learned how to understand what an author uses in their argument that can make it effective or ineffective for the audience. The aspects of the unit I found most useful were, distinguishing what the appeals to Logos, Pathos, and Ethos were in an argument. I can use the knowledge from this unit to create and interpret arguments in the future by applying the understood aspects of Logos, Pathos and Ethos the material I am reading to better analyze it’s purpose. There isn’t anything else I would like to know about Rhetoric.
ReplyDeleteThanks,

Using rhetorical analysis helped me gained understanding of the effective and ineffective ways an author uses it in their passages. The aspects of this unit that I found most useful was ethos, pathos, logos, and logical fallacies. The knowledge that I obtained from this unit will help me with future arguments because I am able to dissect what the writer is truly saying. I know how what was effect and ineffective for me when reading an author’s text. I really liked covering pathos because I believe building up a relationship with the reader on an emotional level, is very important.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this unit helped identify some some of the names for the different parts of rhetoric that are always used and that I have used with out fully understanding. Rhetoric can be made effective by incorporating all 3 parts of rhetoric in to a strong argument. I find Logos to be the most useful in my day to day life because it is the easiest to spot the charlatans or other deceivers. I will use the knowledge from this unit to help interpret information from others, and to make a more informed and thoughtful response to the problems that they may present. I came to understand that full arguments need strong appeals to pathos and ethos so help my readers connect with my arguments in a more understanding manner . I felt like we went over all the different parts this unit so very well there is no longer a need to learn more about the different parts of rhetoric. The time we spent going over logical fallacies was the most enjoyable portion of the unit and happens to be something that I think should be spread far and wide.
ReplyDeleteIn this unit, I have definitely learned that authors use rhetorical devices to help convince and gain credibility with their audience for their given argument. There are definitely very important tools to use in an argument if you want the audience to even begin to see your side of things. I will use all of the rhetorical devices in future assignments in order to better my writing in all genres. I believe it will increase the credibility in my writing as well as allow readers to comprehend and relate to my arguments. I took a lot of time in high school writing rhetorical analysis essays, and I don't believe I have any further questions on the subject.
